January 2012, Happy New Year Everyone!
What a start to the year, the lack of snow on the ground has been great for the diehard golfers out there. It might be cold but still nice to be able to get out and play a few holes from time to time.
We are doing our best to maintain the course, we mow or roll when we can and continue to move the cups around on the greens, this ables the ball to roll true on the surface even in the dead of winter. We are raking bunkers when we can, we hope everyone notices the extra effort that is going into the course. We even repaired the right hand green side bunker, installing new drainage and a fresh cap of sand, no longer holds water!!
We are removing some trees on #16 green to maximise the air flow through this hole in the heat of summer, the hole now might play a bit different with the tree line missing, might help to avoid the bunkers on the left.
We are doing our best to rotate our CART RULES, people ask sometimes even when there is no rain why it is cart path only, simple, we are trying to make the golf course the best for the full season, zoysia is now fully dormant and needs a break once in a while. Please understand why and respect what we are trying to do.
Remember to keep using your Highland Society Card, it is good any time of year.
Enjoy winter golf, spring is coming!!

November 21, 2011
As we near Thanksgiving 2011, I will take time to be thankful for everyone around me both at work and in my personal life. It is immensely satisfying that in some cases both are linked and for that and the people involved I thank you.
2011 was another very hard year here in the Midwest and from everyone at Aberdeen GC, I give thanks for your continued patronage, the compliments through the year and even the odd criticism, even though rare it is still beneficial to know when something might be wrong or not as good as it should be.
Thanks for everyone’s understanding when course maintenance procedures need to implemented, no one likes the word aerification, least of all the guys doing the task at hand. Sometimes during this period the greens might not be as a high standard as we all grow used to but it helps us to maintain the greens during the summer stress that seems to be more frequent. This understanding allows us to perform the task more and helps to keep the greens alive during times when others are struggling.
The golf course is improving each year and is evolving into a really true test of golf. This would not be possible without the cooperation of all members of staff and the ownership of Aberdeen GC. The staff work hard every day, and go above and beyond the normal work day to maintain the course to such a high standard, so I hope all enjoy the fruits of our labor.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!
