April 2010
It would appear the the St Louis weird weather pattern seems to be set in place, which in case you didn't know causes many headaches for many superintendents in the area. Planning goes out the window and you need to have 4 different plans in place depending on the weather.
A lot of the things that we have done here at Aberdeen has been posted on this website at different times this spring, thought it would be good to update it all here.
The greens have been punched twice already this spring and are rolling great, fairways are greening nicely, and we will encourage them to fill and thicken over the coming months.
Bunkers have nearly 100 tons off sand put in them, some might be a little soft, but we are needing some rain to help pack them down again. The consistency we need will be there real soon, and across them all.
Rough is now growing strong and we have fertilized them again, this will encourage them to fill in some of the thin spots we have, this has gotten a lot better of the past few years, we hope you all have noticed the improvement.
3 more tees to finish this month, which will give our scratch golfers a different look from the tips. Aberdeen is now ranked as a great test of golf from the tips. Which we wanted to do, as the rest of the course is a great test and alot of fun for all types of golfers, which is a great credit to our golf course designer Gary Kern.
Our email club continues to grow and we encourage you all to inform your friends, a free game on your birthday. Starting May 1st will be our new highlander card, it is our brand new loyalty card. It costs $1, and after 5 rounds of golf(full price, no discounts or coupons), your 6th one will be on Aberdeen GC. We hope this works well and you all are able to benefit from this.
October 2009
The fall might have missed us the past few days, but rest assured the course is still finishing the year very strong indeed. The grounds staff continues to maintain the course to the standards expeected. The greens are at country club standard in looks and speed and trueness. The rough looks great, thick, lush and dark green. A great look contrasting against the almost dormant fairways.
We want to thank each and everyone that has come out to see us this year, it makes us want to strive further with all the nice comments that you make the time to tell us about. This fall we will to make improvements on the golf course in a number of ways, from removing weak zoysia to trimming trees and edging bunkers. We hope this will make for a even better golf course in 2010.
The new tees will be fully in use for the late spring of 2010, and we are planning on making a couple of change to some exsisting tees to give a few different looks. Also 2 bunkers are planned for hole #15, we plan on taking out some of the long natural grass that is in the way and replacing with 2 great looking sod wall bunkers, that would not be out of place on St Andrews itself..
September 2009
Continuing into 2010 will be our newly formed Aberdeen Golf Club Junior Golf Clinic, with the closure of Hidden Valley Golf Club, we were invited to take over their existing clinic with our own spin on how it was run and operated.
Our Golf Professional Greg Jansen is excited to be taking this on, and hopes you all are too.
Please call 636-938-5465 or email Greg at gregjansen@aberdeengolf.com for more information.
The 2009 season was a great success with over 90 juniors signing up to try this great game called golf. Be sure to watch this space for the 2010 schedule. We thank all those that participated in the 2009 season and hope all enjoyed their time with us.

End 2008 Newsletter
What a year 2008 was, we had a near record flood, almost entering the clubhouse, just a foot short. For those that did not see the pictures of the flood, please ask to next time you are down at the links. Some good came out of this near disaster. We have redone almost all of our bunkers, new drainage and all new sand. We removed the long native grass on hole 12 and replaced with 2 new bunkers that set up a great new look from the tee box. The fairways came in thicker than ever with the extra work that went into repairing the damage from Mother Nature. The greens held up ok with what was a very hard year for all in town what with all the extra rain we received. Considering all the extra water in the ground we have finished off the year strong with the ball rolling into the hole very well indeed.
The new email club is off and running and we encourage you to take advantage of this system. It will enable you to take advantage of some great specials throughout the year. The new online booking system is working well with many of you taking advantage of booking to play while online. The GPS system we have on our carts still helps out the golfers enjoy the course more with its advise on yardages, if only it could hit the shot from time to time it would be a true lifesaver. Have you tried walking Aberdeen yet, with the arrival of our push cart fleet earlier in the year Aberdeen has become a great place to enjoy golf with the joy of exercise without the pain of carrying ones clubs.
Aberdeen hosted its first USGA event in the Publinx qualifier, this proved to be a great event with some low scores and some very high scores. Some of the new tees were used with some great new looks at the holes which proved to be very popular. We even hosted our first Wedding, turns out 2008 was a year of firsts.
What can you expect from Aberdeen GC in 2009?
We will continue to strive to provide a great golfing location and experience for all our customers young and old. We encourage feedback good and bad, so please feel free to comment on what you like and don’t like, we will always listen and try to accommodate all requests.
The course we will continue to improve its everyday appeal, its consistency and playability. The final set of new tees will be in for the summer and will stretch the length to over 7200 which will make Aberdeen the longest public course in town. So for those that like the extra distance we hope it adds to your golfing pleasure. The 19th hole beer garden overlooking 9 and 18 green will get another face lift with some new landscaping ideas making that after round drinking hole a better place to cheer on your friends as they finish up their Scottish golfing experience.
We hope you enjoy the changes that are happening at Aberdeen GC, we love to have your company time and time again. It is our pleasure to continue to serve you in any way we can. We look forward to a great 2009 and say a warm thanks to all for a great 2008. |
